Kazakhstan and China are strengthening cooperation in the field of legal assistance in criminal matters, as follows from the ratification by the Majilis of the Protocol on Amendments to the Treaty on Legal Assistance in Civil and Criminal Matters of January 14, 1993 between the two countries, El.kz reports.

The protocol clarifies the responsibilities of the judicial authorities of both countries with regard to the provision of legal assistance, including the enforcement of judgments and petitions of foreign courts on the territory of Kazakhstan, as well as changes in the list of competent institutions of each of the parties.

According to the new protocol, the Supreme Court, the Prosecutor General's Office and the Ministry of Justice are responsible for providing legal assistance on the Kazakh side, while the Ministry of Justice, the Supreme People's Procuratorate and the Supreme People's Court are responsible for providing legal assistance on the Chinese side.

These amendments provide for the elimination of delays in the referral of applications from the competent authorities to the Supreme Court of each country, which, in turn, contributes to a more expeditious resolution of issues related to the protection of the legitimate rights and interests of both citizens and legal entities.
