Kazakhstan and Belgium strengthen bilateral and multilateral cooperation

The Ambassador of Kazakhstan to Belgium Margulan Baimukhan met with Birgit Stevens, Director General for Bilateral Affairs at the Belgian FPS Foreign Affairs, Foreign Trade and Development Cooperation, El.kz cites MFA.

During the discussions, both sides reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening the dynamic and multifaceted cooperation between Kazakhstan and Belgium.

The parties reviewed a broad spectrum of bilateral and multilateral cooperation, highlighting the high- pace of interaction across political, economic, and parliamentary dimensions. Particular emphasis was placed on expanding trade and economic cooperation, given Belgium’s role as one of Kazakhstan’s key investment partners. In this regard, both sides welcomed the plans to hold a series of economic events, including the third meeting of the Kazakhstan-Belgium Business Council in Brussels in June 2025.

The meeting also focused on Kazakhstan-EU cooperation, with an emphasis on priority areas such as transport connectivity, critical raw materials, digitalization, technology exchange, and innovation, and green energy, climate initiatives, and environmental cooperation. Special attention was given to bilateral agreements and consular issues.

In the multilateral dimension, the sides exchanged views on nuclear disarmament and non-proliferation. The Ambassador invited the Belgian side to participate in the Third Meeting of States Parties to the Treaty on the Prohibition of Nuclear Weapons (TPNW), scheduled in March 2025 in New York, under the presidency of Kazakhstan. Additionally, the Kazakh diplomat informed the Belgian side about the upcoming Astana International Forum, scheduled to take place inMay 2025.

The meeting reaffirmed the shared commitment of both Kazakhstan and Belgium to deepening political dialogue, strengthening economic ties, and expanding cooperation across key strategic areas.
