In his remarks, he underscored the critical importance of enhancing the role and authority of the General Assembly as the UN’s principal representative and political body. This issue is particularly pressing amid ongoing global instability. Strengthening the Assembly aligns seamlessly with the vision of the President of the Republic of Kazakhstan Kassym-Jomart Tokayev. President Tokayev has consistently emphasized the need for the UN to adapt to the evolving challenges of the 21st century, reform its institutions and improve their efficiency. He has noted that the Organization’s future depends on its ability to fulfill the expectations of the global community. The UN must act decisively to address pressing global challenges such as climate change, conflicts, poverty, and social inequality.

Kazakhstan has identified key priorities for UN reform. These include fostering greater interaction between the General Assembly and other UN bodies and specialized agencies, advancing gender equality and transparency, and safeguarding institutional memory by establishing an archival system of recommendations for incoming Presidents of the Assembly. Kazakhstan’s initiatives – such as developing transitional programs, standardizing processes and archiving institutional practices – directly reflect President Tokayev’s call for enhancing the UN’s transparency and operational effectiveness.

During the debates, delegations discussed several critical issues, including the need to strengthen the role of the President of the General Assembly as a neutral and impartial facilitator. Kazakhstan endorsed proposals to ensure the independence of the President through sustainable financing and an expanded staffing framework. These measures are intended to build trust in the UN and reinforce global collaboration.

Particular emphasis was placed on achieving gender equality, an area of broad support among participating nations, including Kazakhstan.

Kazakhstan’s representative reiterated the country’s unwavering commitment to supporting the General Assembly in its efforts to foster global cooperation. He also reaffirmed Kazakhstan’s dedication to the principles enshrined in the UN Charter. Kazakhstan will continue to actively advance initiatives aimed at reforming the UN to serve the collective interests of all member states. These efforts are guided by the strategic vision and leadership principles articulated by President Tokayev.
