Geologists from Satbayev University, working in close cooperation with Johns Hopkins University in Baltimore, USA, have made a significant breakthrough in the study of rocks of the Maly Karatau Range. As a result of specialized geological studies, it was determined that the age of these rocks is about 820 million years,  El.kz reports.

The project included the participation of leading specialists of Satbayev University: Associate Professor, PhD Sezim Mustapayeva, Associate Professor, PhD Yerkhozhu Mamanov and second-year student of the Department of Geology Aibolat Talgatbek. They took part in a 30-day internship at Johns Hopkins University, where most of the research was conducted.

The key stage of the work was radiometric dating and analysis of the carbon isotopic composition of rock samples brought from Kazakhstan. These methods have made it possible to determine a more accurate history of the formation of the rocks and minerals of the ridge.

This study not only significantly expands our knowledge of the geological history of the Maly Karatau Range, but is also an important example of successful international scientific cooperation that contributes to the development of geological science.
