L.N. Gumilyov Eurasian National University is working on the creation of filters that will help reduce carbon dioxide emissions into the atmosphere. Filters can be used to control emissions in power plants and factories, El.kz reports citing press service of the Kazakh Ministry of Science and Higher Education.

The research is funded by the IAEA.

"The goal of the project is to develop an innovative technology that allows combining track membranes (filters) produced in Kazakhstan with organometallic framework compounds to improve the efficiency of carbon dioxide capture.

We are working on creating special layers on the surface and inside the channels of track membranes that will hold the metal-organic framework compounds and enhance their properties. At the end of 2024, the IAEA approved funding for the project for 5 years.

As you know, Kazakhstan, having joined the Paris Agreement, is actively taking measures to fulfill its obligations to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and introduce innovative environmental technologies, this project also contributes to following the Paris Agreement," said Ilya Korolkov, project manager.
