Kazakh Foreign Minister Held Meetings with Representatives of the European Union and Foreign Ministers of European Countries

On the sidelines of the 19th of the Central Asia-European Union Ministerial Meeting, Deputy Prime Minister – Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Kazakhstan Murat Nurtleu held a number of bilateral meetings with high representatives of European institutions and foreign ministers of EU countries, El.kz cites MFA.

The current state and prospects for further development of relations between Astana and Brussels were discussed with the EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy – Vice President of the European Commission Josep Borrell.

The sides noted the positive dynamics of the political dialogue at the high and highest levels. Particular attention was paid to current challenges in the field of global and regional security, as well as support from the European Union for international initiatives of the President of the Republic of Kazakhstan Kassym-Jomart Tokayev.

During the negotiations with the European Commissioner for International Partnership, Jutta Urpilainen, the emphasis was placed on cooperation in the field of digitalization, in particular on providing sparsely populated areas with satellite Internet and implementing recommendations on the soft infrastructure of the transport sector of the Central Asian region.

Issues of interregional cooperation, including the fight against climate change, water issues, security of the Central Asian region and transport connectivity were the main topics of the meeting with the EU Special Representative for Central Asia Terhi Hakala. The parties agreed to continue working on the practical implementation of previously reached agreements.

The Ministers of Foreign Affairs of Spain Jose Manuel Albares, Poland Zbigniew Rau, Romania Luminita Odobescu and Estonia Margus Tsahkna had a fruitful exchange of views on topical areas of bilateral cooperation and interaction in a multilateral format. The Foreign ministers “checked the clock” on the main issues of the international agenda.
