On October 31, the Kazakh-Finnish Forum on Sustainable Forest Management was held with the participation of the Minister of Ecology and Natural Resources of the Republic of Kazakhstan Y.N. Nysanbayev, Finnish delegation, representatives of the scientific community, the Kazakh business sector and non-governmental organizations, El.kz reports with reference to the Ministry of Ecology and Natural Resources of the Republic of Kazakhstan.
In his welcoming speech, Vice Minister N.K. Sharbiev noted that the forests of Finland occupy about 76% of the country's territory, as well as the experience of Finland in carrying out afforestation activities and a developed timber harvesting system is useful for our country.
By the way, Finland is the richest country in forest resources, in which the forest industry has a large share. Finland was a pioneer in forest certification, a leader in private forest ownership with advanced logging equipment, production, and wood processing.
In this direction, at the initiative of the President of the Republic of Kazakhstan, in order to increase forests in the territory of the republic from 2021 to 2025, 2 billion seedlings will be planted in the state forest fund.
There are great opportunities between Kazakhstan and Finland to increase investment cooperation and mutual trade. We are determined to deepen and strengthen mutually beneficial cooperation in all areas," said Minister of Ecology and Natural Resources of the Republic of Kazakhstan Y.N. Nysanbayev. during a bilateral meeting with the Under-Secretary of State for International Trade of Finland Jarno Syrawala.
The minister also recalled that this year marks the 30th anniversary of the intergovernmental commission on trade and economic cooperation between the countries.
The forum has become a platform for the exchange of information on the harvesting and potential of the woodworking industry of the countries, as well as for discussing the possibility of international cooperation in this direction.
