International finance corporation plans to expand cooperation with Kazakhstan

Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Kazakhstan Alibek Kuantyrov held a meeting with the World Bank’s Resident Representative in Kazakhstan, Andrei Mikhnev, International Finance Corporation (IFC) Manager for Kazakhstan and the Kyrgyzstan, Zafar Khashimov, and Head of the IFC Representation in Kazakhstan, Ekaterina Benjamin, El.kz cites MFA.

Deputy Minister Kuantyrov commended the productive and successful cooperation between Kazakhstan and the World Bank Group. The Deputy Minister expressed gratitude to the representatives of international organizations for their support and noted the positive contribution of the World Bank and IFC in the implementation of infrastructure and business projects, as well as in improving Kazakhstan’s legislation.

In response, Mikhnev emphasized the importance of infrastructure investments for diversifying trade and logistics routes and transferring international expertise to foster Kazakhstan’s economic development. Khashimov highlighted the significance of experience in structuring long-term large-scale infrastructure projects, while Benjamin expressed the IFC’s intention to take concrete steps towards strengthening cooperation with Kazakhstan’s regions.

The parties discussed opportunities for actively involving the IFC in implementing regional investment projects that carry social significance for the population. In particular, they explored potential cooperation in areas such as energy, modernization of water management infrastructure, and addressing the effects of climate change.

At the conclusion of the meeting, both parties reaffirmed their commitment to continuing mutually beneficial cooperation and agreed to exchange information on promising projects.
