International coalition led by Kazakhstan established in Geneva

The Global Coalition on Primary Health Care (PHC), announced by President of the Republic of Kazakhstan Kassym-Jomart Tokayev in Astana in October 2023, has started its work in Geneva, El.kz cites MFA.

In this connection, foreign ambassadors and deputy permanent representatives welcomed the initiative of Kazakhstan and discussed ways to promote it.

The Coalition aims to reorient global health systems toward stronger, equitable, and resilient primary care, essential for achieving Universal Health Coverage and the Sustainable Development Goals. The Coalition has expanded to include nearly 20 countries from Asia, Americas and Europe, demonstrating a growing commitment to strengthening PHC worldwide.

Discussions in Geneva highlighted the importance of mobilizing broader support by encouraging more countries to join the Coalition and emphasizing national and regional commitments to PHC. In his remarks, Permanent Representative of Kazakhstan Yerlan Alimbayev underscored that the Coalition offers an opportunity for countries to demonstrate leadership in PHC globally and significantly contribute to the World Health Organization’s (WHO) work.

Dr. Suraya Dalil, Director of WHO’s Special Programme on PHC, affirmed Organization’s dedication to this collaborative initiative. Attendees shared ideas and suggestions, emphasizing the importance of collective action in strengthening global PHC systems.
