An expert meeting was held at the Embassy of Kazakhstan to Hungary. During the event the results of political reforms of the Kazakhstan’s President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev and the preparation for early parliamentary (Mazhilis, the lower house of parliament) and local representative bodies (Maslikhats) elections of the Republic of Kazakhstan were discussed, El.kz cites MFA.
In his speech, Ambassador of Kazakhstan to Hungary Zhanibek Abdrashov noted that the upcoming parliamentary elections are the final stage of the reboot of state institutions, which enshrines the real content of the “strong President –influential Parliament – accountable Government” formula.
“Kazakhstan conducts modernization of public administration, strengthens political openness and provides equal access to economic opportunities, and it is necessary to mean on the original road of new democratic principles,” Abdrashov said.
Separately, stopping at the parliamentary elections and the electoral campaign, the Kazakh diplomat noted that systemic transformations laid the foundation for the activation of party construction in Kazakhstan.
“Thanks to simplified procedures for creating new political commitment in the country, seven parties offering a wide choice of electorate for the implementation of electoral law are registered. The participation of these parties in the competition will subsequent will contribute to the strengthening of the multi-party system, developing the potential of political pluralism and opposition policy, thereby ensuring the longest stability of the political system as a whole and the effectiveness of solutions to us,” Ambassador noted.
The experts drew parallels between the electoral systems of Hungary and Kazakhstan and received comprehensive information on the peculiarities of the mixed proportional-majority model of the upcoming elections, the legislative norm on establishing a 30% quota for women, youth and persons with special needs in the distribution of mandates of members of Parliament according to party lists, which aimed at a wider representation in the Parliament of all groups, as well as on the practice of interaction between the CEC and international observers. Information materials were handed out to the participants of the event.
Hungarian experts noted that new rules will increase competition in the formation of the branches of power and allow the deputies to more fully represent the interests of the voters. In addition, they wished the successful holding of the upcoming elections.
