From 2025, the EAEU countries have begun to work out the issue of expanding the mechanism of financial assistance to cooperation projects in the agro-industrial complex, El.kz reports with reference to the Eurasian Economic Commission.
The decision to start this work was made on January 31, 2025 by the heads of government of the EAEU member states. The initiative is based on the already existing mechanism for supporting industrial projects, which began work in 2024 and provides for subsidizing interest rates on loans and borrowings for joint cooperation projects.
The new stage of development of the EAEU provides for the expansion of financial instruments to the agro-industry, including product processing, livestock development, breeding, seed production and agricultural infrastructure.
Experts note that support for the agricultural sector is especially important for Kazakhstan, where the agri-food industry plays a key role in the economy. The implementation of joint cooperation projects in the agro-industrial complex will allow the participating countries to effectively develop the domestic market, form supply chains and stimulate innovation.
Currently, the EEC, together with the member states, is preparing amendments to the regulatory framework of the Union, including the draft Regulation, which will fix the conditions of financial support and criteria for the selection of projects.
The results of the work are planned to be presented at the next meeting of the Eurasian Intergovernmental Council in the second half of 2025.
