Three more Uzbek citizens (all men) have died in Türkiye due to the consumption of fake alcohol, El.kz reports citing kun.uz.

As of January 18, 2025, the total number of Uzbek citizens who have died from alcohol poisoning has risen to 17.

The Consulate General is in the process of completing the necessary paperwork to repatriate the deceased to Uzbekistan and is providing support to their families during this time.

Additionally, five individuals are currently being treated in intensive care units in Istanbul after being poisoned by counterfeit alcoholic beverages. Consulate staff are closely monitoring their condition and remain in regular contact with their families and hospital authorities.

“Consulate diplomats are maintaining constant communication with the Istanbul Governor's Office, the Health Directorate, the Forensic Medicine Center, and law enforcement agencies regarding the matter,” the statement read.

It was noted that some citizens, despite being poisoned, opted for self-treatment at home instead of seeking hospital care. When contacted, these individuals explained that financial concerns discouraged them from visiting hospitals. “However, such decisions often result in severe complications, including kidney failure, vision loss, and respiratory issues,” the consulate emphasized.

The Consulate General urged all citizens to seek immediate medical assistance by dialing 112 if they experience symptoms of poisoning. They also reminded citizens that emergency care through the hospital’s “red zone” (“kırmızı alan”) is free of charge.
