Ambassador-at-Large – Head of the Representative Office of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Kazakhstan in Almaty, Zhanibek Abdrashov, delivered a welcoming speech at a cultural event dedicated to the closing of the advocacy campaign “16 Days of Activism against Gender-Based Violence” in Kazakhstan and Central Asia, El.kz cites MFA.
The event was organized by UN-Women in cooperation with the Central Asian Alliance for the Elimination of Gender-Based Violence.
Ambassador Abdrashov stressed the successful implementation of the joint EU-UN “Spotlight Initiative” in Central Asia, the creation of the Central Asian Alliance for the Elimination of Gender-Based Violence, as well as the adoption of the UN Human Rights Council resolution on the elimination of domestic violence, supported by more than 60 countries. An important milestone was the election of the famous Kazakh diplomat Madina Zharbusynova to the Committee on the Elimination of Discrimination against Women (CEDAW). In addition, Kazakhstan became the co-chair of the «Beijing+30» regional review and presented a roadmap for the implementation of UN Security Council Resolution 1325 “Women, Peace and Security”. Women peacekeepers from Kazakhstan also successfully serve in the international arena.
The Head of the MFA Representative Office assured that Kazakhstan remains committed to combating gender-based violence and protecting the rights of women and girls.
