This year, training at the capital’s opera house attracted the attention of 69 participants from Kazakhstan, the United Kingdom, Romania, Russia, Kyrgyzstan, Georgia, Ukraine, Mongolia and Armenia. Successful candidates who passed the first stage of the selection process will soon compete for the right to become the academy attendees in the next two rounds.
Executive director of the Astana Opera International Opera Academy Aisulu Tani emphasized that the academy offers unique opportunities for the professional growth of young artists.
“We strive to create conditions in which each attendee can reveal their potential and reach a new level of skill. The academy attendees get access to classes with the best teachers, in-depth study of various aspects of opera art, learning languages, and the opportunity to perform at one of the leading theatrical venues in the country – Astana Opera.”
It should be noted that the Astana Opera International Opera Academy was opened in 2021 and has since established itself as the only in-demand institution of its kind in Central Asia that is a part of an opera house and that improves the skill level of vocalists. It teaches such disciplines as vocal technique, stage and acting skills as well as foreign languages. The training program also includes master classes from the world’s leading opera singers, accompanists and stage directors.
The first round of auditions was held in the format of online selection, where candidates had to submit video recordings of their performances of pieces of their choice. This stage allowed the selection committee to evaluate the vocal abilities, artistry and technical skills of each applicant.
In the second round, participants will perform accompanied by a piano. It is important to note that candidates can independently provide an accompanist. The number of participants admitted to the second round did not exceed 40 people. In the third, final, round of auditions, future academy attendees will perform accompanied by an orchestra.
As a reminder, candidates aged 18 to 35 with higher or secondary specialized musical education were invited to participate in the auditions. The applicants’ age was taken into account as of October 1, 2024.
After all the rounds are completed, the academy will accept 10 people who will study as part of the third class of attendees. There are already two previous classes of graduates who successfully completed their training at the academy in 2023 and 2024. Among them are Dinmukhamed Koshkinbayev, Azat Malik, Alikhan Zeinolla and many other vocalists who have repeatedly become laureates of many international competitions and received invitations to perform abroad at prestigious world stage venues. The academy management hopes that the new class of vocalists will be just as bright and talented.
