Akimat of Almaty and IFC sign agreement

IFC Türkiye and Central Asia Regional Director Wiebke Schloemer visited Kazakhstan,El.kz reports.

The Akimat of Almaty and the International Financial Organization (IFC) signed a Cooperation Agreement.

According to the document, IFC is ready to invest up to $200 million in the purchase of green bonds of the Akimat of Almaty. These funds will be used to implement important infrastructure projects, including the construction of the first light rail line (LRT), the development of the bus rapid transit (BRT) system, the modernization of ten trolleybus substations and the purchase of 100 electric buses.

The green bond is scheduled to be issued in 2025, after IFC completes the evaluation of the proposed projects. It should be noted that Almaty is the only region in Kazakhstan that has the right to attract external loans from international financial organizations in national currency for the implementation of environmental projects.
