Global Snow Leopard Ecosystem Program (GSLEP) will be hosting its seventh Steering Committee (SC) Meeting on the 20-21 October 2022 in Bishkek, El.kz reports with reference to the Ortcom.kz.
From the Kazakh side, Vice Minister of Ecology of Kazakhstan Aliya Shalabekova takes part in the event.
The snow leopard is a symbol of the cultural and natural heritage of the highlands of Asia. A third of the world's snow leopard population lives within 100 km of international borders, making it a true ambassador for cross-border cooperation. Asia's highland ecosystems also contribute significantly to regional and global ecosystem services, which also makes the snow leopard an ambassador for peace, according to the session's program.
"The snow leopard is one of the rarest large predators of Kazakhstan, which was included in the Red Book of our country in 1978, it is the state symbol of the Republic of Kazakhstan and has great social significance, reflecting the invaluable natural and cultural heritage of the Kazakh people," Shalabekova noted in her welcoming speech.
Also, Kazakhstan, in cooperation with international agencies, the non-governmental sector and civil society, is taking serious steps to introduce adaptation measures to climate change, preserve biodiversity and sustainably manage ecosystems.
Thus, in achieving 17 Sustainable Development Goals, our republic has already included about 80 targets in national strategic and program documents.
